Controlled AlfaDos™ Dropping Funnel
Like a traditional dropping funnel, the innovative AlfaDos™ dosing system is simply driven by gravity and does consequently not require any pumps. Thus, the problems are eliminated which always occur in the case of pumps, such as media incompatibility, suction problems or bubbles.
In addition, this results in a considerable cost saving, no costly balances and pumps are required. The flow is controlled by a solenoid valve. As no measurement and no regulation of the flow takes place, the dosing rate is not constant. However, in some cases, such as for the pH value control, the maintenance of a certain dosing rate is not so important. Here AlfaDos™ is the absolutely most inexpensive solution.
The Advantages
- Simple dosing functions
- pH value control
- Redox control
- Titration
- Dosing, subject to the size of the process involved
- Inexpensive
- Compact and robust
- Does not require pumps
- Resistant to aggressive media
- Easy to clean
An AlfaDos™ system consists of a glass stainless steel or plastic storage vessel. Outflow takes place by gravitational force or applied pressure and is controlled via a solenoid valve.
Dosing under pressure or vacuum is possible if a pressure compensating line is installed.
Application examples
Traditional dropping funnels or dosing devices with pumps and balances are replaced by AlfaDos™ if the requirements for a constant dosing rate are low or the dosing is regulated based on another variable, for example the pH value or the Redox potential, or if a process signal such as the temperature is used as a controlled variable.
In the standard model only glass, PTFE and PVDF are used as materials in contact with media. Special variants in other materials are possible.
AlfaDos™ dosing facilities occupies one channel on a digital output panel/digital output module for the valve.

Gravimetric Dosing GraviDos®
Like a traditional dropping funnel, the innovative GraviDos® dosing system is simply driven by gravity and does consequently not require any pumps. Thus, the problems are eliminated which always occur in the case of pumps, such as media incompatibility, suction problems, bubbles, etc. The integrated weighing system takes up so little space that several dose loops can be comfortably integrated into one compact laboratory plant.
In addition, this results in a considerable cost saving, as no costl balances and pumps are required. The price advantage particularly comes to bear when several dose loops are required.
The Advantages
- Gravimetric Dosing
- Weighing of vessel content
- Weighing of reactor content
- Inexpensive
- Compact and robust
- Does not require pumps
- Easy to clean
- Wide dispensing range
- ass flow metering
- pH value control
- Titration
- Refilling without interruption to dosing
- Optional pulsation-free dosing
- Resistant to aggressive media
- Ex-compliant version available
A GraviDos® dosing system consists of a glass storage vessel which is suspended from a weighing system. The weight change is recorded and the flow is regulated via a solenoid valve according to the weight signal. As such, it is a true form of mass flow control which does not have to be calibrated for different materials and which remains unaffected by the formation of bubbles.
Optionally, pulsation-free dosing can be achieved by using a proportional valve. Dosing under pressure or vacuum is possible if a pressure compensating line is used.
When connecting to a LabManager®, one GraviDos® dosing device occupies one measuring channel on the GraviDos® slide-in module (LM-SG). One channel on a digital output module is occupied for an open/closed valve.
The pulsation-free dosing option requires requires one channel on an analogue output module. Auxiliary pressure may be applied to the receiver tank for the dosing of liquids with a high viscosity or where there is a lack of a slope.
Gravimetric dosing control is carried out by the LabManager® system in either batch-quantity or rate dosing mode.
A HiText™ example application is included in the scope of delivery. The unit operation "Dosing Gravi" (SL-GOPDOSIGRAVI1) exists for operation with HiBatch™ batch control. This allows refilling without an interruption to dosing even when the system is in operation.
For stand-alone dosing and filling applications, various control units are available.
